Tips For Kids To Learn Tennis

By Davis Pete

Tennis is a great sport and very few people can argue with that statement. It has all the challenge of competition as well as being a great exercise with a lot of cardiovascular activity. It's the type of sport that kids would enjoy playing. It isn't that difficult to learn, but the person doing the teaching should be able to interact easily with younger people. A tennis lesson for a kid is really quite different than adult tennis lessons.

In Singapore, we have many tennis courts and tennis centers for one to play the game. Hence, there should not be an issue when it comes to finding a tennis court. The main so-called problem would be in identifying the right coach for the kid or kids. A good tennis coach is able to motivate and make the kids enjoy learning the game. The kids should look forward to the tennis lesson and find it a bore. The coach must be able to get the kids to swing at the ball initially without getting too technical at this stage. Kids group lessons can be a good place to start as kids like to follow their peers in learning new things.

If the child shows that he has the ability to play tennis, you may wish to put him into private tennis lessons to hone up his skills. However, to make it more and to have some interaction with his peers, enrolling the child into group tennis lessons can be a good idea as well. If the child is able to learn the finer points of tennis stroke techniques at a very young age, they will have a good chance of doing well in the game as they grow older.

At this tender age, it is imperative to impart the knowledge of sound technique and rules of the game to the child. The kid must know how to hit and execute a stroke with the correct technique. Also important is the need to learn the trait of sportsmanship i.e. being able to win or lose the game graciously.

If your child is talented and shows promising talent for the game, you should let him or her mature into the game, rather than force them to do well. Putting undue pressure on the child may break him mentally and physically as the child's body is not yet ready for such heavy duty punishment. In summary, it is better to let him enjoy the game and see how things transpires.
